Coronation chicken may have been inspired by jubilee chicken, a dish prepared for the silver jubilee of George V in 1935, which mixed chicken with mayonnaise and curry.



This modern version is credited as being invented as part of the preparation of the foods for the banquet of the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953, the preparation of cold chicken, mixed with curry cream sauce and dressing become known as Coronation Chicken.



Simple to Prepare



Genius or just a relic of the royal past, at its most basic, it is pieces or shredded cold chicken merged with a curried mayonnaise or crème fraîche.By adding celery, grapes or sultanas a few chopped nuts some fresh green herbs.


The thickly shredded meaty chicken,along with the fruits and a smooth velvety creamy taste, and then out of nowhere, bursts out the curry flavour sensation, then the fresh crunchy celery creating flavours and tastes all so simple yet together blending to make this special enough to be exotic.



Just So Simple To Make

With just couple of table spoons of coronation chicken and the salad becomes a taste of magic that you have created your own special dish.

Throw it together in a big bowl, and let it sit, for a least an hour,if you can, overnight. Then spoon it into a fresh crusty whole meal roll french stick or baguette, absolutely delicious.

Ingredients for this Coronation Chicken Supreme



Serves 4 to 6.

Preparation 15 minutes.

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise/crème fraiche.

  • 1 tablespoon milk.

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons curry powder.

  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh coriander.

  • 3 tbsp. lemon juice.

  • ¼ tsp. salt.

  • ½ tsp. fresh ground black pepper.

  • 2 sticks celery, diced.

  • 2 breasts cooked chicken, discarded the skin, meat and shred roughly shredded.

Directions and Procedures.

1. Add the mayonnaise/creame fraich, milk into a large bowl and mix together.

2. Add the , curry powder, lemon juice, salt and pepper and mix until well combined.

3. Gently toss the chicken nuts and fruit in the curry sauce and mix well.

4. Finally stir in the coriander and celery and cover.

5. Refrigerate for at least one hour ( preferably12 hours) before serving.
