The secret is, if there is a secret is to layer compatible ingredients, crunchy items like celery with soft items like peas or small tomatoes,next to slices of raw carrot,most a soft items fruit always adds that extra flavour and the children can always eat salads with fruit.

This adaptation of a USA Midwest classic layered salad starts with a base layer of lettuce, then peas, bell pepper and tomatoes with a creamy, balsamic dressing.
The salad stays fresh underneath until it's served and gets even better when held overnight.
Servings: 4 servings, about 1 large cup size bowl per person each.
Ingredients for this easy salad in layers.
4 cups shredded iceberg or solid heart lettuce.
1/2 cup frozen peas, thawed.
1 medium yellow bell pepper, diced.
1 red bell pepper diced.
1 green bell pepper diced.
1/2 cup quartered cherry tomatoes.
1/2 cup sliced celery.
2 tbsp sultans.
2 tbsp chopped walnuts.
1/2 cup sliced shallots.
1 small tub cup plain yogurt.
3/4 cup Light or low-fat mayonnaise.
2 teaspoons balsamic vinegar.
1/2 teaspoons sugar.
1 tbsp freshly chopped garlic.
1/4 teaspoon sea salt.
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper.
1/2 cup grated Cheddar cheese.
1/2 cup rough torn fresh basil.
6 strips crispy cooked lean bacon, crumbled.
Directions for great layered salad
First spread the lettuce into a thick base layer on the bottom of a large serving bowl, then create furthers layers on top the lettuce.
First the peas,then on top of them the bell peppers and so on, tomato layer then, celery, sultanas, nuts, and last the shallots should placed right on the top.
Into a medium size bowl whisk the yogurt with the mayonnaise and balsamic vinegar,then add some sugar to taste,then garlic, salt and pepper until it is smooth thick creamy substance.
Spread this creamy dressing evenly over the top of the salad.
Sprinkle over this mayonnaise dressing a layer of your cheddar cheese, then the fresh Basel leaves, on the top of that add your crunchy bacon pieces.
Lastly carefully place into spaces in your dressing the shallots arrange these as a final feature of garnish.
Place to bowl and contents into the fridge to merge and to chill down.
Ideally this salad can chill down overnight or for at least 3 hours before serving.
Serve the wonderful salad at room temperature for the best taste
