Porridge with Natural Crushed Oats

Porridge/Oatmeal.

Oats are Mostly Carbohydrate this can give you the kick start of energy you need for breakfast at the start of the day and it is an easy diabetic breakfast recipes.

This is substantial and very filling which is good for you, it also is said to help with some control of,and helps with controlling cholesterol.

There are many different product varieties calling themselves a generic name of oats,we always choose the natural crushed oat product, even so again there are many styles and types to choose from even jumbo with nutty flavours.

Quantity for 2 persons

We use one cup full of branded crushed natural oats, one cup of skimmed milk and 2 cups of water.

I prefer it cooked in a pan on a cooker (but you can use a microwave) bring it to the boil stirring gently with a wooden spoon to avoid lumps.

Then turn the heat down and continue to stir gently until it thickens and all the liquid has been absorbed then its ready, these ingredient proportions will be sufficient to serve two persons.

Fruit can add fruit,or berries or banana is always good and children soon get used to fruit with additional sweeteners so you can reduce any sweeteners naturally.

If you do find any rejection by children due to lack of sugar sweet tastes, try a tinned milk not the thick treacle type just the concentrated liquid style this adds an almost creamy taste that makes it a lot more acceptable to most all of us and without added sweeteners.
