Beer Can Chicken recipe is an out door great meal probably created by a by a drunk hiding his beer from his mates then and cooked his chicken before realising what a great idea he had just invented.
The vapours from the beer or wine flavour through the chicken to add special extra tastes to you meal.
On a fine summer evenings sit outside cook a great meal chat with friends and family and look at the stars it can't get much better than that.

• 1 (4-pound) whole chicken.
• 2 tablespoons olive oil.
• 2 tablespoons salt
• 1 teaspoon black pepper
• 3 tablespoons of your favourite dry herb or spice to rub on.
• 1 can beer.
Beer can chicken
First prepare your BBQ the dome shape is ideal, but any covered unit will do.
If it’s a gas unit and has already been cleaned light half the burners on one side only.
If it’s a charcoal dome unit, put up to 3 layers of coals on one side, use a safe liquid fire lighter or any dry type fire lighter and light and leave.
If you have an open grill you can create a suitable cover from about 5 layers kitchen foil using old wire coat hangers for a frame.
To put over all the cooking area to contain the heat.

One cleaned (supermarket chicken type chicken).
Rub beer can chicken lightly with olive oil then rub inside and out with salt, pepper and dry herbs and spice and rub. then then set aside.
Open the can and take several gulps until the can is half empty).
Place half empty can on a solid surface, holding the chicken leg in each hand, push the bird cavity over the can so that the chicken appears to sit upright on its back side,add a little salt and pepper for taste.
Carefully put your bird-and-can on to your grill and place it to the opposite side to the coals( it is always best to cook when the is a covering of white ash on the coals in the grate.

Cook the beer can chicken over medium to high indirect heat (i.e. no coals or burners on directly under the bird), with the grill cover on, for approximately 1 hour at an internal temperature registering 180degrees.
Turn you beer can chicken around and brush on another coat of the oil, herbs and spices to cook on the other side until the two sides are the same colour.
Take a sharp knife stab or cut into the breast and thigh when the juices run clear its almost ready.
. Remove from grill and let rest for 10 minutes before carving.
During this period you can setting up your salads and perhaps just have time to open another can of beer
